Lamma Story (Bilingual)

lamma_smallLamma Story introduces Lamma Island from the angles of nature, community, material culture and the island districts planning of Hong Kong. It investigates culture of Hong Kong from the ‘collective memory’ with a deeper dimension.

Lamma Story is the first book to reveal the development of Lamma Island over past 6,000 years and how it becomes the small island of today. In the book, we looked into the development of fishing, farming, crafting and com

merce in Lamma Island. It reveals how the centralized city planning policy of the colonial government affected the life of people, the material and non-material culture there. This book provides a different case when we study the subject of ‘conservation and development’. Explaining the island districts material culture with colourful pictures exhibits our original observation over the environment.

The book is printed in true colour, accompanied with 160 photos of different sizes (photo exhibition will be held later); written in bilingual in order to cater wide range of readers; including tourist maps which enable readers to locate the sites.
